Just finished reading the article about the Healy family. How fascinating and informative. I have always been a student of History; both American and Irish. I love to learn about the people and what occurred during specific times in both our countries history.

The following was written by my father in the last weeks of his life as his present to his eight children. I am his fourth of eight children and am in my 15th year of intermittent family history research. I am also the current Irish Study Group Leader of the BIFHS-USA society in West Los Angeles and currently work for a manufacturing firm as an…

The family homestead -- still in use and productive to this very day!
One of my most magnificent or poignant 'Great Irish Spots' would certainly have to be finding my 7 times Great-Grandfather's homestead where he settled in America after imigrating from Ireland. In 1755, Robert Steen of The…

A true Irish spot, the small Neo-Gothic Church on the grounds of Kylemore Abbey, in Connemara.
You have to look hard for this special gem on the grounds of Kylemore Abbey in County Galway. Kylemore Abbey, home of the Benedictine Nuns since the 1920’s, is nestled at the base of Duchruach Mountain on…

I stopped by the AmerGale Irish Arts Event in Harvey Cedars, NJ today. It personified Irish Culture at its best; Music, Song, Poetry Reading and Dance. Said a quick "Hello" to Jim Curley, met Peggy McNally,a very gracious lady! Was sorry to have to leave, my Granddaughter was preforming in the Little Mermaid and I just couldn't miss that. I am considering joining.

Italian culture is strong -- endearingly strong. I wouldn't want it any other way, because Italians do many things right. Food, coffee, art, family ... the list could be a rather lengthy one. So when a small bit of authentic Ireland creeps in and takes a foothold in the centre…

Hello, I'm not Irish.
I was born in the USA. So were my parents. So were most of my grandparents, so were most of my great-grandparents. I'm not Irish. Never been there, not applying for citizenship. I'll go so far as to as I'm not even a proper "Irish-American". I don't have a single shamrock-themed item in my possession. If I wear something green, it's because I think it looks good on me. My favorite foods have names like "vindaloo" or "tikki masala" (which actually might put me a…
