As someone who is working on the story of one of the most famous of those Famine Refugees Patrick S Gilmore who escaped the famine in 1849 , and as someone who knows this man as well as most did in his life I can say without doubt that he would be disgusted that 150 years later we would be working on a comedy about the people he saw dying in Ballygar ,Athlone ,in Dublin , in Boston, on the ships ,being thrown overboard . From Roanoke Island Battlefield he wrote back to his editor " I eat as much Hominy as any other nigger on the island" not because he was racist but because he saw the comparison between the Slave and the Irish , what we both could do , what we both could say , what we both could eat .Remember we were known as the Niggers of Europe , No Irish need Apply , the scum of the earth etc . And some want to have a laugh , Where is the response of our politicians , where is our esteemed President who admires all things culturally , where are our leaders who will stand so proudly beside the Queen or her representatives at the 1916 celebrations, where are the objectors , where are the true patriots or are we more concerned about who wins a football goal competition than how our poor poor decent great great great grandfathers /mothers / uncles , cousins /or neighbours died . May they rest properly in peace and may we not stop till they can rest in peace .
Channel 4 must be persuaded to stop this Sitcom called "Hunger "
I too am disgusted by this attack on Irish peoples dignity . Can we form some sort of a list or club to counteract this awful travesty ??
