Moving In, And Moving On ...

Posted on November 4, 2015 at 1:30pm 0 Comments

Oh dear, it’s been such a long time since I wrote anything for The Wild Geese … I didn’t realise how long until I re-entered the site. Why? I moved house (or 'flitted' as we call it in Northern Ireland). I moved to a house that looked great on viewing but proved otherwise when we got in. With all the furniture removed and no one there, the extent of what needed to be done swiftly became all too clear.…

Lest We Forget: Jack and Sam Mallaghan and the Royal Dublin Fusiliers

I wrote about my novel, Ghost of Gallipoli, in a previous blog. However, given the significance of Sunday, 10th November, I’d like to dedicate this article to all those men of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, including my great-uncles, who died during the Gallipoli Campaign, in 1915.

Nice to meet you Rose. You are marked as being in New Zealand on the Wild Geese map, not sure why as I see you are in South Africa. I lived in West Africa for four years and regularly traveled to South Africa during that time. Apart from the West of Ireland it is probably my favourite place in the world ... a really beautiful country. All the best, Margaret

G'day Margaret, I like the sound of your book. My grandfather, that's his photo was at the Anzac landing & served right through the Gallipoli campaign. twice wounded there he then served on the Western Front till Ausgust 1917 when he went on leave to ireland where he stayed for 27 months AWL working with the Irish Volunteers. I am working on the story of Australian & New Zealand soldiers who fought for Ireland, The Diggers & the IRA. Cheers, kerry.
