The Desmond Fitzgerald Photographs, a stunning collection of 179 photos is now available to view on the University College Dublin Digital Library website. This collection of photographic prints forms part of the papers of Desmond FitzGerald. The majority of these photographs arise out of the Irish Civil War, but other smaller series relate to the aftermath of the Easter Rising and to the War of Independence. There are also other series of army portraits and of historical occasions photographs.

What can you tell us about the top picture?
Here's the caption accompanying the top photo in the gallery:
Irish Free State Army soldiers walking along a country road towards the photographer with guns at the ready; one is smiling happily; two young men in civilian dress are walking beside them and a third civilian, standing at the side of the road, might be applauding.
Ger,
I believe the man on the right, with his hand on his head, is actually a Republican prisoner.
What's going on in the bottom picture?
I'm sure I've seen the bottom pic before, Ger. I think it's the aftermath of the destruction of the Custom House in Dublin.
