I woke up at 4:45 am a few days ago and within 5 minutes, this was forming in my head so I got up and starting jotting down some the words. I went back to bed but the thoughts wouldn't let me sleep! So I got up again and by 7 am I had this tweaked and ready. I submit it for your thoughts.
God bless Ireland
In her patchwork dress so green
Her blue Atlantic eyes are smiling
Full of mirth and ancient magic
With lilt and merriment she sings
And tells a tale of years gone by
If you listen long enough
And beg the whole story unfold
Her soft voice will give way
To cries of bitter agony
Heartache for her children gone
Sorrows past that linger still
Study the face of her history
And see the scar upon her brow
Pray that none arouse the temper
Which just below her surface lies
Like a spark to be ignited
She does not deserve the misery
Her skies endlessly weep so many heavy tears
For the plight of her sons and daughters
Look deeply into her soul and find
In her mind she still hears their cries
This sadness always with her
Although through it she beautifully smiles
So keep to the song in her heart
Back to the cloak of emerald
That lies across her slender shoulders
Belying the strength within
With beauty, but spirit still unbroken
The pride of auld Ireland

Sure this is lovely, Fran, a chara! I love those writings that come in your sleep and flow out of the faery whispers...
Thanks Bit! It woke me up and tormented me to get up and write! So I DID bring a faery home with me... ;)
I have woken up in the morning and found a poem written on my computer... wondering to myself, "How did that get here?"...only to have my son wander out and ask "What in the world were you doing on the computer at 4 in the morning?" "Sleepwriting" an author's equivalent of sleepwalking I suppose
Sleepwriting! I love it! : D
In this case it was more like dreamthinking, as it was there when I awoke ; )
Tis the love of our land, our culture, and people that have inspired your thoughts!
Exactly Danny. I didn't know I had this in me until I was so inspired by my trip to Ireland! I just can't express how much my heart and soul were affected by my experience. I'm hoping one can see it in my poems and it sounds as if it's pretty evident : )
