Bonnet making event in the small room of the Guild Hall, Derry, Northern Ireland.
The christening bonnets will be made from shirts sourced from Derry which references the cotton and linen industry that so many women in Ireland were involved in at the time when impoverished women were being exiled off to Australia.
Thousands of women ended up making shirts in these factories. Including the shirt material in the bonnets is a reminder that the babies and young children born to transported women never grew to adulthood.
Bonnets made in this workshop will be included in an exhibition that will be included in the City of Culture events in Derry.
