Great film, Jean. A classic, and one of the first movies people mention when the subject of Irish film comes up.
I believe the name of the actor you're trying to remember is Ian Bannen ... is that the one?
I mainly remember the sound-track. Thought it was great.
I remember seeing this. It was great! :
When a lottery winner dies of shock, his fellow townsfolk attempt to claim the money.
The trailer is here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0166396/
Have to watch this again. My speakers died also! So this trailer was a teaser.
Thanks for reminding me, gang. This one is due for a re-watch! So funny and light-hearted, capturing much of the rural Irish spirit I believe. Recommended despite excessive old-man-naked-butt scenes!
I loved this film. The acting was wonderful; the characters unforgettable, especially David Kelly's character, Michael O'Sullivan. I'd watch it again in a minute!
Relax and enjoy watching it with a glass of B ulmers in cold Sturbridge. Lived in Leominster for about 5 years and Ma. is my favorite place in US. Haven't forgiven my husband for moving me- and that ws 30 years ago - but hey, I'm Irish and I hold a grudge.
Love the come-uppance depicted, in such a whimsical, comical and hugely surprising, manner. One of the best Irish films ever made! Trying to avoid a spoiler here.
