Where does the surname Wayne come from? Isaac Wayne was born in County Wicklow, Ireland in 1699 to Captain Anthony Wayne, veteran of the Battle of the Boyne. Isaac married Elizabeth Iddings of Philadelphia and had four children: one of whom was Brigadier General Anthony “Mad” Wayne (1745-1796). Anthony Wayne served as General in Chief of the Army and commanded the Legion of the United States (reorganization and extension of the U.S. Army). He served in eight major battles of the Revolutionary war, two Northwest Indian Battles, ratified the U.S. Constitution, served in the House of Representatives and was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his victory at Stony Point, NY. He was a member of the Anti-administration Party (research this one!)
