New genie class started and participant is descended from a McSweeney. Have looked into this and found they come from a Gallowglas Sept. First I have heard Gallowglas. Article on Wikipedia very informative.  Anyone want to blog on this and in 1800 where would the McSweeney Clan be living?

First thought is a connection to Irish republican and hunger striker Terence MacSwiney. He was from Cork.

The McSweeneys in Ireland were historically based in County Donegal.

The McSweeneys are one of the few who can actually claim descendancy from Niall of the Nine Hostages.

They orginated in the Argyll area of Scotland. Castle Sween, between Kintyre and Knapdale, was one of their strongholds. It is the oldest surviving stone built castle in Scotland

They came to Ireland in the early 1300s, settling in Donegal but expanding down into the Connacht & Munster. They mainly settled in Fanad, Doe & Banagh.
