Have you heard that the Irish language is dying, spoken only by a few old men and women on the fringes of the western seaboard?
Watch these videos made by the young people attending Irish summer courses at Coláiste Lurgan in Indreabhán (County Galway).

Rose, the Philo-Celtic Society offers free online Irish language courses and can be found here : http://www.philo-celtic.com/classes.html They have classes at various levels, so maybe you can find answers to some of your questions there? :)
Also, as far as practicing the spoken language, if you find there are no groups for you locally, there is a Facebook group called Gael Skype. While my skills haven't yet progressed to the point where I'd be able to make use of it, this group is for speakers and students of Irish to converse with each other via Skype. :)
Heartfelt thanks to Cindi Borax who has taken the time and trouble to e-mail me links to both the Philo-Celtic Society and a Facebook group called Gael skype - I shall be investigating both. Many thanks, Cindi!
Tá fáilte romhat, Rose! ^_^ I know I wished I'd been able to find all these links in one place when I was first starting to learn, and so I am happy to pass along what I've found to others, in the hopes it will be helpful to them. Maybe I will start a page of all these links.. :)
That's an excellent idea, Cindi! I am extremely isolated in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa insofar as having any interaction with people of Irish descent - míle buíochas!
A Chairde,
Sa Seachtaine seo chugainn, tabhairfidh mé scéal deas daoibh faoi ár Teanga i gCeannada.

My Grand-daughter attended an Irish school in Bray Co Wicklow Coláiste Raheén . She speaks Gaelic fluently. It is not dying out , it is being revived
