Introducing: The Wild Geese Virtual Síbín

The team here at The Wild Geese is excited to announce the newest regular feature in this community.  The Wild Geese Virtual Síbín will be a series of occasional conversations with newsmakers (often members) from the global Irish community, broadcast live via Google + Hangout.  These talks will also be archived here on the site for anyone who cannot join us for the live broadcast.

So, what is a síbín?  A síbín (Anglicised: shebeen) was originally a term used for any illicit bar or club in Ireland where excisable alcoholic beverages were sold without a licence.  The term has spread far from its origins in Ireland, to Scotland, Canada, the United States, England, Zimbabwe, English-speaking Caribbean, Namibia, and South Africa.

This Friday (August 16th) at 6 p.m. ET, The Síbín features a conversation with Melbourne-based Fran O'Neill, the creator, producer and composer of the upcoming ceoldrama, "The Last Torch." Based on historic events in Ireland, Fran describes her musical as "'Les Miserables' meets 'Game of Thrones.'"

So, drop by The Síbín this Friday evening, pull up a stool, and listen in as we learn about the dramatic journey Fran is taking to see the dramatic real-life events from her own family's history portrayed on-stage in Australia, and hopefully beyond.

Members, please head over to the event listing HERE and RSVP.
