My Grandfather was John Joseph Scollan, Commandant, Hibernian Rifles.

He was at The GPO in Easter 1916 with James Connolly and Michael Collins and the seven signatories to the 1916 proclamation of The Irish Republic. I am presently researching his life, having just returned from Dublin.

Good luck  John Scollon.... I when I retired I started researching my Grand-mothers life.... i found her in Co Wexford... and back as far as the Famine..... I wrote a tribute to her in a book called 'That's Just How it Was '

I had listed to her stories as I sat by her chair in mt childhood and youth.... letting it all drift in one ear and out the other...If only I had taken it all in... because as I began my research... it was all there vividly in the Archives, in our history .... if she could see now how I gave her all the credit that was due to her ... alas she is long gone..

It is a shame that all of our hero's .. like your grandfather are not mentioned in our history books.... Good luck anyway
