If you're a first time visitor to Ireland next year, you'll probably already have numerous places on your must-see list. However, if you've been before and want to experience something new, then Camden Fort Meagher in County Cork might be for you.

The fort is relatively newly opened (2013), and the folks that are running have done a mighty job at cleaning up and presenting what was very recently an overgrown ruin.

I visited the fort just a couple of weeks ago with my family, and it really is a great addition to Cork's tourist scene. There is so much to learn from a historical perspective, and if you get a fine day I promise you won't get a much better view from the fort's ground, then anywhere else on the south coast.

I did a little write-up about Camden on my blog, and uploaded plenty of photos too. If you're interested in seeing more you can check those out at this link - Fort Camden photos.

I'm pretty sure the fort is closed now for a few months, but what is really cool for 2015 visitors to Ireland is that there'll be even more of the fort to enjoy. The volunteers and staff will be preparing more of the attraction for public viewing during the off-season.
