Descendants of the O'Sullivans, Sullivans in Kerry and Cork

Just throwing out a line to draw in some other Sullivans like myself.  Perhaps share some stories, Sullivan information, or even some DNA info.

In the southeast of Ireland, there are so many Sullivan clans that they have a second unrelated name to identify their family line.  Mine is McCann, but in my father's parish of Kilgarvan in County Kerry, there are Sullivans with the second identifier such as, Goula, Rodgers, Downs, and I am sure others that I have no knowledge of.  Drop a line and add ideas.  Perhaps we can hook up wIth some distant cousins.

What are your thoughts??????

I am Kristen from NY...not to be confused with my cousin Kristen Rogers O'Sullivan who grew up in Kilgarven.  My grandmother's family owns the pub.  When I was little, the pub was only on the bottom right.  It now has the entire bottom floor.

Kristen, we were just in the pub a couple of weeks ago. My father and Jack Rogers were first cousins!

My 2nd great grandmother was Julia Sullivan (1861-1936) who emigrated to the USA. Through DNA testing, I have proven that her parents were Daniel Sullivan Goula and Ellen Donovan. Her older sister Mary Ann married Michael Sullivan McCann and another sister Catherine was wed to Michael Sullivan Down. Point being is that those 3 branch names are related dating back to the 1870s and possibly further. If anyone has more info about any of these families, please reach out to me at cwdunning1@gmail.com.

Hi all, just popping in to say thank you for the explanation regarding the second name being added to "Sullivan." My great-great grandfather was John Dineen, born in 1861 to Jeremiah Dineen and Margaret Sullivan McCann. I was very confused looking at the records and seeing names recorded as Sullivan, Sullivan McCann, or sometimes just McCann. I'm happy to be connected with you all and look forward to learning more.
