Dia Duit, Sean...
and how long have ya been the Historian? WHere do your roots run deep back home?
im from long island origanally...my da was the historian for the massapequa div 15 he was career army and a true fenian.he taught me how to respect history and read both sides. i spent my career in the us army i was in the irish brigade
Long Beach eh? I was born in Oceanside, just next door. My family lived in Rockville Center though. Originally we all came from Brooklyn before that, as most of the Irish and others moved from the old neighborhoods in BK to LI in the mid 1900s.
Welcome Sean!
Im the division historian about 3 years now. my father was the historian for div 15 in Massapequa. I am primarily self taught in irish history concentrating on the Easter Rising and the Irish in the American Civil war. I am a retired Army officer
My main focus recently has been the out and out racial bias against the Irish in New York during the draft riots in July 1863. Historians (both Protestants and the radical left blacks) Have painted a picture of the draft riots that is both anti irish and anti catholic. One would think after reading articles about the draft riots on the internet that either Al Sharpton or Eric Holder wrote all the articles. i ask the acedemic Irish American Community to join me and stop these lies and anti irish attacks. We need to enlighten Americans the true causes of the riots. The living conditions of the Irish in NY were criminal. blacks were treated better then the irish because they werent catholic for the most part.
