Actually this is a photo of the interior of The Black Fort on Inis Mór not Dun Aengus.

Ah ... that's why it looks different.  I've not been to Black Fort, Jim (at least I don't think I have).  Where exactly is that located?  We'll have to check it out next time we're out there (which will be soon).

It is a great photo, not often that a shot appears from inside the fort.  The Black Fort is the closest to the docks, between Kilronan and Killeaney.  Walk towards Killeaney and you will see a road branching off the main road to the right at the old Power House, it goes up a steep hill on to the next cliff level and then you turn right and continue as far as you can go without getting your feet wet!  The road goes all the way to the cliff edge over looking the sea, there are rudimentary signs showing how to get across the rocky area to the Fort which is on the cliff edge, it is a beautiful site and usually quiet, the main hoards have taken the bus to Dun Aengus.  This link will clarify some details:  https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&m...

Now is a good time to visit Aran, summer may last another two days.

Greg, easy mistake to make, we have two main forts hanging over the cliffs and you visited the nicest one, maybe you also went to Dun Aengus.  I really like the photo and will have to make a pilgrimage up there to try out my new Canon.  1993 is a long time ago, have you considered a return to Aran, we will try to guarantee fine weather and a smooth sea crossing.  Jim
