¡ZorroFest! A Celebration of William Lamport of Wexford - "The Irish Zorro"

¡ZorroFest! A Celebration of William Lamport of Wexford - "The Irish Zorro":

ZorroFest 2013 will be a celebration of the life of 17th-century Wexfordian William Lamport (Guillèn de Lombardo), the “Irish Zorro”, and the many links between Ireland and Mexico.

It will include a performance by the Mariachi Band San Patricio alongside traditional Mexican dancers (baile folklórico), a concert of Spanish Classical Guitar music, a Mexican-inspired parade by Buí Bolg, lectures, a photography exhibition, children’s workshops, Mexican food, and much more.

Who would have ever imagined that an Irish adventurer and poet would be so influential in Mexican history?

His avant-garde ideas and texts set the basis for what was to become an independent nation 2 centuries after Lamport’s death.

Did you know there is a statue dedicated to Mr. Lamport (Guillén de Lombardo) at the base of one of Mexico’s most important monuments in Mexico City: La Columna de Independencia?

His life and adventures were arguably one of the strongest inspirations for the story of Zorro.
This May Bank Holiday come join Wexford in our Mexican Zorro-esque “fiesta”.
