The Irish Cultural Society will devote its October 16, 2013 meeting to the poetry of Seamus Heaney. The guest speaker will be Dr. Linda Opyr. Dr. Opyr was the Poet Laureate for the County of Nassau from 2011-2013 She has had seven volumes of her poetry published, and her poems have been anthologized and printed in The New York Times, The Hudson Review, The Atlantic Review and The Paterson Literary Review. Dr. Opyr will bring her audience to appreciate the greatness in Seamus Heaney's poetry which led to his winning the Noble Prize in Literature in 1995. She will also read the poem she was commissioned to write by the National Park Service for the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's designation of Theodore Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill as a National Park.
