Easter Monday, April 1 Noon
Easter Monday has a special place in Irish history. The men and women who faced the mightiest army in the world in 1916 in the Easter Rising will be remembered at the Easter Monday Memorial on this day. The Monument is behind the Supreme Court Building in Mineola. There will be talks, pipers, a bugler and the laying of a wreath at the Monument to honor those who fought for Ireland’s freedom in 1916. The ceremony is brief and dignified, well worth attending. Sponsored by the Easter Monday Memorial Committee.
Wednesday, April 10 7:30 p.m.
Garden City Library 60 Seventh Street
As can be expected, the Irish Cultural Society's musical guest at this meeting, Andy Cooney, will have had a busy month of March. Andy Cooney had an eighteen show “Forever Irish” tour last month, the closest venue being Kellenberg High School, in Uniondale, LI. The Darrah Carr Dance group has joined Andy’s tour. Andy is still touring with Donald Rodriguez and Michael Amante as the New York Tenors. Andy’s popularity has led the New York Times to call him “Irish America’s favorite son.” Andy’s schedule of appearances and cruises, music downloads and other information about our musical guest can be found on his web site, andycooney.com.
