Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse is proud to host the Irish event of the year on Wednesday, 30 April 2014.
Featuring history, sports, film, music and song, this is an occasion not-to-be-missed -- combining the efforts, support and talents of multiple people, venues and organisations.
The Event Day & Night:
4pm: Ancient Order of Hibernian member Terry O’Hara will give a brief talk on the Sport of Irish Road Bowling at Coleman’s on Tipperary Hill to kick off the event. Gerry Regan, Executive Director of TheWildGeese.com, will then give a brief talk on ‘Why Our Irish History Matters — and Off -- the Information Superhighway.” With nibbles, a drink and networking.
6pm to 7pm: We move to the sensational Landmark Theatre where The Onondaga Historical Association will showcase a two-panel exhibit - A Brief History of the Irish in Onondaga County - in concert with an exhibit from The Irish American Heritage Museum Albany titled “The Irish in the American Civil War." The suggested donations for this portion of the evening are: $3 adults, $2 seniors and free for children 14 years of age and younger. Museum Memberships are also available upon entry. Donations and memberships help fund the Museum’s educational programs.
7.00 - 8.15: The high point of the night features the screening of award-winning “The Irish Pub Film” non-fiction feature with a Q&A session with director Alex Fegan. Described by the Chicago Sun-Times as "beguiling chats...characters & lore served pint after pint." and by RTE Ten as "A joy from start to finish, The Irish Pub takes a place amongst a list of the best documentaries I have ever seen.” See the trailer here. Tickets $10 at the door, available behind the bar at Nibsy's, Coleman's & Kitty Hoynes; or from the emails & phone number listed below.
8:45: We return to Tipperary Hill to the oldest Irish Pub in Syracuse (Nibsy’s) for a Q&A session with Alex Fegan on the film. There will be music, craic and dancing which ends whenever it ends!
