Walking past the Society on Fifth Avenue, or walking into the lobby, one can't help but notice a marble bust of a man, looking out toward the street. He is Charles O'Conor, and the man who created his portrait was Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907), America's premier sculptor of the Gilded Age. Society members are invited to come June 19, 2013 from 7-8 pm to learn more about Saint-Gaudens, a Dublin-born artist who was also one of the founders of the American Irish Historical Society. Known for his Civil War monuments of Admiral Farragut in Madison Park and General Sherman in the Grand Army Plaza, Saint-Gaudens also sculpted the Parnell Monument on O 'Connell Street in Dublin.  Rick Kendall, Superintendent, and Henry J. Duffy, Curator of the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site will be joined by noted American sculptor Lawrence J. Nowlanto introduce this great Irish-American sculptor.
