I am doing research before a trip to South Africa on a Boer War tour with Ian knight. Looking into MacBride’s Irish Transvaal Brigade. I know of the brigade flag. I’ve seen the photo of the hat and slouch hat cap badge worn by Dr. Walsh who served in the brigade but the badge is hard to see. It looks like an Orange Free State badge which would be a bit strange. Photos show brigade members with their hat brims pinned back but you can’t see a badge or what every else may be securing it. I know the brigade only came into being in Sept 1899, and its service ended the following year, but does anyone know if the brigade had its own badge?
