I’m a PhD researcher from Glasgow School of Art, and, for the last 6 years, I have been working on a research-led doctorate about the cillíní – the children’s burial grounds.

The research has been based in County Kerry, where I’ve worked closely with members from the local communities in Iveragh and Dingle, recording audio interviews and field-recordings to produce a sound work called Requiescat.

The whole point of my research and Requiescat is to highlight one of the group of adults who were also buried within the cillín alongside the babies, but this particular group is often overlooked or not known about – the mothers who died in childbirth.

Requiescat was to be showcased at the Feile na Bealtaine in Dingle this month, but, because of the virus lockdown, the festival was cancelled. In place of the exhibition, I have created an online version of the work, where Requiescat can be heard. There you will also find a link to a short online survey which can be completed after listening – this gives me valuable feedback for the research.
