A gentle ballad for a lovers who cannot be together.

Wings of Angels

Could I command the wings of angels
Order them to where you lie
To lift you up while you are sleeping
And lay you down by my side

If by my hand the winds of heaven
In cloudy arms transport the rain
To grace your days with rainbow ribbons
* And by night wash clean your pain

You are everything to me
Is tú grá geal mo chroí
You are everything to me
** Is tú grá geal mo chroí

Could I control the turning seasons
Place the seeds in nature’s room
From my heart the flowers of summer
Would all arise and for you bloom

* Alternate lines
And in the nighttime ease your pain
And by night sing this refrain
While in the night this truth remains

** Translation
You are the bright love of my heart

Beautiful, but sad, and the singing was superb.  Thank you.

Thank you Walter. It's interesting that although the song is concerns lovers who are apart, the thought in the back of my mind was that they would get together and their separation was only temporary but that wasn't mentioned in the lyrics. It is fascinating to hear what different people bring to songs - one lady who had lost her son wrote to me that the song brought her some peace as it helped her imagine being with him again. Thanks again for your kind words, Walter.

Walter, I note that the lyric reads here "From my heart the flowers of summer" but you sing "From my heart the flowers of heaven" (if I heard it correctly). FYI.

Like your voice -- it is very calming to listen to, expressive. Love the Irish refrain!

Well spotted regarding the lyrical discrepancy in Wings of Angels. Songs go through many drafts, of course, before a final version is arrived at, and sometimes different takes of lyrics somehow sneak in. You will see that in the lyrics I posted I also give alternate lines at the end and this was in response to the interest shown by the Minnesota group Locklin Road when they wanted to record it. They did record and release it online where it spent some weeks near the top of the cdBaby folk charts which was very satisfying for me. Thank you for your interest and feedback - it is very gratifying! Slán - Des
