We recently became involved with one of the biggest charity events in Ireland. The launch was over the weekend. Below is a little info on the event and the press release.

Men, women and children are called on to Walk for Life this October in Aid of the Marie Keating Foundation.

Launched Dublin, 8 September 2014: Television and radio presenter Louise Heraghty and The Marie Keating Foundation are calling on men, women and children to take part in the fourth annual RE/MAX Walk for Life in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation. The 5km non-competitive event, which is open to walkers and runners, will take place in the Phoenix Park at 10.30am on Sunday, 5 October and registration costs €15, with the full amount going to the Marie Keating Foundation to help raise awareness of cancer and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices in cancer prevention. See www.MarieKeating.ie to register.

Speaking at the launch, Louise Heraghty said, “Being physically active isn't just good for your heart - research has shown that it can also reduce the risk of developing cancer. By taking part in the RE/MAX Walk for Life you can ensure that you are keeping yourself fit and healthy while also raising valuable funds to help spread the word about cancer prevention. You can do the walk or run at your own pace so everyone can get involved.”

Also speaking at the launch was Linda Keating, Director of Fundraising at the Marie Keating Foundation. “One of the simplest steps that you can take to help avoid cancer is to become more physically active and walking more is a great way to do this.  Join us for the RE/MAX Walk for Life and get started with gentle exercise. Our mobile information unit will also be there to provide free information on each of the key cancers, including Bowel, Lung, Mouth, Skin, Testicular, Prostate, Cervical, Ovarian and Breast cancers. The Marie Keating nurses also provide free, practical advice on healthy lifestyle choices.”

John Fogarty from RE/MAX Ireland, said, “I and RE/MAX Ireland Co-Owner Paul Gartlan are both delighted to be sponsoring the Walk for Life. We, along with our office owners, agents and staff throughout the country have all experienced the loss of family and friends from cancer. I lost my own mother when I was quite young to breast cancer so I also know the effects the disease can have on the families left behind, that’s why it’s especially nice to be able to help raise some money for this great cause and at the same time being part of a great day out for all the family.  Cancer affects one in three people in Ireland so unfortunately it touches many of our staff and customers. We are proud to be involved with an event that is encouraging people to look after their own health while also raising funds for cancer awareness. We would encourage as many of our staff, customers and friends as possible to join us on 5 October.”

Each participant will receive a t-shirt and goody bag on the day of the event.

To register for the event, visit www.MarieKeating.ie, or call the Marie Keating Foundation on 01 628 3728.

About the Marie Keating Foundation

Following their mother Marie’s death in 1998 from breast cancer, the Keating family promised to try to provide all women and their families with vital information which could help them to prevent cancer or detect it at its earliest stages.  Their collective aim was to “enlighten not frighten”.

The Marie Keating Foundation is now a leading voice in cancer awareness and information for both men and women in Ireland.

The Foundation does not receive any Government funding and all of our services are provided free of charge. Without the support of our wonderful fundraisers and volunteers across Ireland, we simply could not continue to provide these vital services and make one family’s promise of making cancer less frightening by enlightening a reality.
