Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, it wasn't St. Patrick's Day unless we saw the movie "The Quiet Man." There were the parties, the parade and the dying of the Chicago River green but until the whole family sat together and watched The Quiet Man it really wasn't St. Patrick's Day. Several years ago my sisters and I finally got to visit Ireland. When we got to Connemara and saw the bridge, I knew I was home.

God choice for your "Great Irish Spot," Jean. We live just a short drive from this bridge, and our guests always want to stop to have a look and get some photos. It really is a quintessential Irish setting, which is obviously why the filmmakers chose it for a location.
Ryan, I'm planning my next trip for 2015 and bringing my nieces with me. One of the few things they said they wanted to see was the bridge. I guess it's a family tradition. I can't wait to go back, I loved the Connemara area.
Ryan, when was the bridge built - the 'civil engineering' must have been really something!
Yeah, I'd also like to know when it was built.
The leam Bridge, as it is known locally, was built in the 1840s
Wow! That is SO cool. Thanks Bit!
They think it was built as part of the famine relief program... at least that is the story the locals hold to
