My name is Maureen Mc Ghee. Yes Mc Ghee with a "h" in it, I have had to spell it out loud for people all my life. Maybe there are more Mc Ghee's out there? My fathers family come from a place called Drung near Quigley Point on the Inishowen Peninsula in Co. Donegal. My mothers maiden name was Mc Closkey from Ballyloskey, Carndonagh, Co. Donegal.
Anyway , I just want to introduce myself and what I do. Maybe you can see my artwork on this blog, I called it "River of Life", it uses Yew wood and silver and it shows a silver river dashing and darting in its youth like us in our youth. The river slows and meanders later in life, like us, and may choose to drop some of its heavy weights of boulders like we shed our worries. Its full of symbolism.
I use different types of wood including 5000 year old Irish Bog Oak to create unique pieces of artwork, each usually with some Celtic symbolism.
Ive always been creative, I trained in Art College in Kilkenny, Co. Donegal and Belfast specialising in jewellery. I make individual pieces of jewellery too.
I hope you like what I make, or, the stories behind each piece.
