First Foul Ball - Must be the Luck of the Irish

NYIrish with Tommy D

Those of you who know me are well aware I am a die hard sports fan. The New York Yankees are my religion in the summer months ; so much so that I call Yankee Stadium "Church in Da Bronx". It is every baseball fan's dream to say they caught a foul ball at a game and I'm no exception. I've been attending baseball games since 1974 - seen hundreds of games in dozens of cities in my life so far. I've come close numerous times to catching a ball, but this dream has always eluded me somehow.

That was until one fine day this past August. It must have been the combination of wearing my St Patrick's  Yankee cap and that my young cousin Cillian was visiting from Belfast. I took him to his first Yankee game and wouldn't you know it a ball is hit up our way, ricochets off about four people, and the ball lands right at our feet !

Now if I knew that all I had to do was wear my Yankee shamrock cap and bring one of my cousins over from Ireland to attend a game with me I could have scratched this off the bucket list long ago! I guess it is all about the "Luck of the Irish" and today that baseball sits on Cillian's dresser in Belfast... He'll always have a great story to tell about rolling with his cousin in Da Bronx :)

Happy baseball season to everyone, and let's go Yankees!!

All the Best,

Tommy D

Thanks for that inspiring story, Tommy. Grabbing my lucky shamrock as I had out the door!
