Dreaming of Dublin

Dublin was founded as a Viking settlement in the 9^th century but today it is the largest city of Ireland and the capital of the Republic of Ireland. In modern Irish, Dublin is called Baile Átha Cliath which means “Town of the hurdled ford,” referring to the fording point of the River Liffey. Furthermore the real meaning of the name Dublin is “black pool.” Who knew?

Over the past two decades, the city has gone through a total reinvention and can no longer be called “dirty Dublin.” Although it has held onto its roots it’s now a modern city with a groovy atmosphere.
