The idea of an Advent Calendar is more German than Irish... But there is something rather joyous about a countdown to Christmas. So... although we are metal people (not chocolate --we realize chocolate makes for a better Advent calendar, but it just isn't feasible online....) in honor of Christmas we will be posting a picture a day of one of the unique Nagle Forge & Foundry Crosses until December 24th...
On the first day of December we bring you.... The Viking Era Cross
On the second day of December we bring you.... The Celtic Cross Seal Ring
On the third day of December we bring you the Celtic Maze inspired brooch. When a maze is a cross or a cross is a maze....
On the fourth day of December we bring you a pair of cast Bronze equilateral cross earrings garnished with natural green Turquoise and cultured Akoya pearls.
On the fifth day of December we bring you these elegant cast bronze and sterling silver earrings inspired by quatrefoil Medieval Church windows.
On the sixth day of December we bring you...
On the seventh day of December we bring you....
Well... for the 75th Anniversary of the Day of Infamy we just couldn't. R.I.P.
On the eighth day of December we bring you a pair of earrings inspired by the earliest church art of Ireland. In the early days of Patrick's mission church art was simple and beautiful. Early Celtic Christianity was based around Monasteries rather than Cathedrals. Church art was thus beautiful but also modest. This pair of Celtic Crosses is inspired by the decorative metal work of that time. Curving lines, Celtic inspiration, and yet simple.
For the ninth day of December we bring you a pair of earrings inspired my a Medieval Church window. The light shines through the cross...
For the tenth day of December we bring you this original Stave inspired Cross brooch. Cast out of lead-free pewter, surrounded by a carved ring of Celtic design.
For the eleventh day of December we bring you this Art Nouveau inspired round Cross brooch. The stylized flowers form an endless wreath surrounding a simple, yet classic, interlaced Celtic Cross.
For the twelfth day of December we bring you this stylized bigger bolder version of our Crescent Celtic Cross. Cast and fabricated from lead-free pewter. Inspired by the classic lines of a simplified interwoven Celtic Cross and the complex and rough hewn elegance of a traditional carved round shield.
For the thirteenth day of December we bring you this Viking inspired maze style Cross brooch.
For the fourteenth day of December we bring you not a Cross but a Bishop. Inspired by the art of the early Christian period. Vikings, Monks, Bishops and the Faithful....
For the fifteenth day of December we bring you a Knight with a Cross on his shield...
For the sixteenth day of December we bring you an old friend.... Change the stones, change the look.
For the seventeenth day of December we bring you....
For the eighteenth day of December we bring you something for our Scottish Cousins. A ring of stylized thistles, a simple equilateral cross. A fully functional Plaid Brooch. Lead-free pewter. Handcrafted by Nagle Forge & Foundry.
For the nineteenth day of December we bring you the Knotwork Cross. Cast, not woven. Metal, not rope.
For the twentieth day of December we bring you a classic Medieval inspired interlace cross. If the proportions seem familiar that is because they are the "classic" proportions used in almost every Cathedral for the past 800 years....
For the twenty-first day of December we bring you this Celtic Ring Cross. Massive, imposing, simple... Inspired by the best of early Irish art. A Nagle Forge & Foundry original.
Lead-free-pewter and Peridot. Handcrafted in North America...
For the twenty-second day of December we bring you something else for our Scottish cousins. This Plaid Brooch features St. Andrew (patron Saint of Scotland) and the Cross of Andrew. St. Andrew was martyred on an X shaped cross.
A fully functional Plaid Brooch. Handcrafted from lead-free-pewter by Nagle Forge & Foundry.
For the twenty-third day of December we bring you another cross that isn't exactly Celtic... and another cross for our Scottish cousins. The Lamb of God in a wreath of stylized engraved Thistles... Cast and fabricated out of lead-free-pewter. Made in America by Nagle Forge & Foundry.
For the twenty fourth day of December we bring you the other side of the cross.... Medeival Crosses were often double-sided. This is the other side of the Viking era cross we featured for the first day of our count-down to Christmas Cross calendar.
And for the 25th day of December....
Merry Christmas.... And to all a good night.
