In the months prior to Pearl Harbor, the Regan men come back to the Richmond Hill home of their parents. Both brothers, Jerry, on the left in lower right picture, and Ray, to his right, volunteered to serve in the Army. Jerry (my Dad) got a medical discharge before war erupted, based on an injury from his days playing high school sports. Ray served for the duration in the Army, rising to captain of a mobile anti-aircraft battery ("ack-ack gun), serving in Africa and through much of Europe. My Dad later served in the wartime Navy. In the top left is Ray Regan, the pater of the family, with his wife, Sue. Ray died on August 4, 1966, 47 years ago, age 69. Ray was generous and full of compassion and patient and devoted to his family. I recall hearing from my Dad how Grandpa Ray would occasionally drive for hours to visit his wife's cousin, in prison for 20 years for an armed robbery, bringing him a bit of money, comfort, news from the family, and undoubtedly some hope.
