The Making of New York's 'Mary From Dungloe'

Astoria, N.Y. -- Six women competed last Saturday for the honor of representing 'Mary From Dungloe' this summer at the annual pageant at the heart of the Mary From Dungloe International Festival, in County Donegal. Delighted to be at the table of fellow member Tom Dullaghan and his gracious aunt, Jane Malone, my sweetheart, Mary Grady, and I were enthralled at the scope, organization, energy and sheer charm of an event that has endured since 1978. Here are some highlights we attempted to capture and convey here.
