Syracuse, N.Y. -- Tipperary Hill Memorial Park aka 'Stone Throwers' Park commemorates the "Stone Throwers," a group of young Irish residents who in 1925 refused to allow the green to hang below the red at the adjacent, now famous traffic light, at Tompkins and Milton avenues to convey their loyalty to Ireland.

After repeatedly refitting the broken glass, the city finally yielded and permanently put the green on top, for the world's only green-over-red signal light. The original group of stone throwers comprised Jocko Behan, Richie Britt, James "Duke" Coffee, Patrick "Packy" Corbett, Kenny Davis, George Dorsey, Mikis Murphy, Stubbs Shortt, and Eugene Thompson.
