This is my Great Grandfather who washed ashore in Guymas, Mexico as a wee boy. He of the velvet knickers, silk stockings and one black shoe with a gold buckle...He was given the name Vicente, the name of the man who found him and raised him as his own.

Interesting to note..in this painting, he is sitting and she is standing

Any theories where he came from?

Theories...stories..but no hard facts...apparently there were several ships that ran that route, Captained by Scotsmen & Irishmen but also by Dutchmen and French. No hard records can be found so far to tie in which ships ran aground or wrecked near Guymas.

I wish I had more to go on. My grandma said that the shoe had a cobbler's stamp. If I had the shoe, perhaps a search based on that would give us a general idea.
