Written in pencil on August 29, 1918. Two days later he went 'over the top' with his unit, the 106th U.S. Infantry and was mortally wounded, dying in a Canadian army field hospital on Sept. 4. Turk ended his note by stating, "By the looks of things, the war will be over soon."
