Your family?
Mostly. Kind of a long story: My father (on the far left) came with my grandmother Mary (who I call "Memore" since when I was very young she tried teaching me "Máthair", but I ended up calling her "Memore"). Then Eileen is a cousin in Dublin (from Westport) and the couple in the chair are the Joyces, who are amazing. We just met them that day. We were driving down a small dirt road in Cogaula trying to find the church that Memore's father was baptized in and we got lost. We stopped by one house to ask for possible directions and no one was home. So we kept driving and then stopped at this house and was invited in :) it was great. Ended up finding out we are distant relatives to the Joyces, haha, and it was a great experience.
Sorry my father and grandma came for the last week that I was there. I was there for 2 months. My dad's first time in Ireland.
And so it is in Ireland...you never know who will answer the door at which you stand...
Next year, I am taking my mother and, if he will promise to not stir up trouble with his comments, my father... We will be spending a week in So Armagh, where his mother's people are from and where she spent her later childhood years before emigrating to Canada. From there, we will grab a Ferry over and spend 2 weeks in Scotland visiting family there, as well..
It is good that you were able to share those moments with your Dad and your Memore. You built lifetime memories
What a fantastic story! Thank you for sharing that and this picture!
So many of us have a similar Irish story of being invited into a family home unexpectedly. God bless Irish hospitality!
