Henry Gray served as Midshipman on the USS Essex during the War of 1812. His parents were United Irishman Nicholas and Elinor [Hughes] Gray of Wexford, Ireland. Henry was most likely named after his uncle Henry Hughes.
Henry Hughes, United Irishman - A plaque to his memory reads:
To the memory of Henry Hughes, born Ballytrent House c 1768. He took part in the 1798 rebellion and in the Emmet Rebellion 1803. As a result was disowned by his family and lost his estate.
Unveiled by his descendant Mary Hughes.
Erected by Rosslare Harbour Kilrane Tagoat Pike Association 1998.
