Widows' pennies on display at the Dysert O'Dea tower/castle and photographed in June of 2000. These were presented to the widows of fallen Irish soldiers during World War I. They are the size of a large dinner plate and quite thick. The soldier's names are engraved and this interested me since my Grandpa's father was a McNamara and his mother was a McGrath. The soldiers here are John McGrath and Patrick McNamara.
