My father Thomas Loftus Gray was 90 years old when this photo was taken. He passed away on April 9, 2014 at the age of 97. Thomas was a life long farmer and cattleman in Good Intent, Kansas. He was a descendant of the Gray family of Wexford, Ireland. Capt. Joseph Gray was his ancestor brother to Nicholas Gray the Irish Rebel, Another brother Thomas was a member of the Wexford Militia. The youngest brother was Loftus Gray of the Rifle Brigade who had an active career. Loftus Crosier Gray was my dads great grandfather and enlisted for the Civil War August 19, 1862 at Troy, Kansas. The inscription on his tombstone reads "Sacred to the memory of Loftus C. Gray Veteran of the late War, youngest son of Capt. Joseph Gray and beloved husband of Mary Gray. Born in County Wexford, Ireland, April 13, 1813. Died at Crescent City, Ca. December 5th, 1897."
