My memoir of my Irish mother (Dingle and Tralee) and my refugee father (Vienna) I was born in Tralee into an Irish clan, knowing nothing of my father's escape from Nazi Vienna until I pried loose his story when I as in my 20's. Award-winning memoir discusses Ireland's record with refugees during WW2. Am now writing my mother's history, starting with her uncle - and guardian -who founded the Kerryman in 1904. Her older brother Paddy Foley, known as "PF" was followed for his GAA column.
Fascinating story, Jo! I'm so glad you are here with us. I know you want to promote the book, and create readers (and sales). Might you publish a few long extracts from the book here on TheWildGeese.irish? And link to a website for purchase.
Thank you, Gerry - I'd love to publish some "long" excerpts! But, you'd better define "long" to this Irish writer. A ballpark word limit would help keep me in check. And I'll link to purchasing site for sure. I'm currently working on another book which will focus on my mother and the Foley clan, her first four decades in Ireland and our move to Canada in late 1955 and what prompted it. Political and social issues will be covered, including Ireland's Jewish community and relations.
Gerry - I just input an excerpt but I have no idea where it went!
