Born in Buffalo, New York, in the early years of his career Olcott sang in minstrel shows and Lillian Russell played a major role in helping make him a Broadway star. Amongst his songwriting accomplishments, Olcott wrote and composed the song "My Wild Irish Rose" for his production of A Romance of Athlone in 1899. Olcott also wrote the lyrics to "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" for his production of The Isle O' Dreams in 1912. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chancellor_Olcott

I watched the film about him, My Wild Irish Rose, a couple years ago -- interesting story. Thanks for the photo!
What an amazing photo...I wonder what the story is behind the photo?...
Happy Birthday Chauncey
I do recall watching Dennis Morgan in a movie and the song being sung was ' When Irish Eyes are Smiling', but the sung got cut short - problems in the projector room in the old post-WW2 moviehouse. Never did see the end
of the movie. But, of course, Harry Lillis Crosby came thru with his version, as did many others. >>
