I loved this when I was a kid.

Brack, Belinda? Or the pudding? I thought that was just a Hayes-McCoy family thing!

We made it with stale buttered bread and added the raisins and soaked it in tea then baked it in the custard.

Always loved that :) I know it as Bread And Butter Pudding. We thought we were pretty inspired when we thought of doing it with brack!

Ladies, Is this what Lady Gregory refers to in one of her one-acts as barmbrack?

Comment by Felicity Hayes-McCoy on October 29, 2013 at 5:53pm

Yes, though the name's always been a contentious issue in Ireland! (Dorothea Herbert in her Retrospections 1770 - 1806 refers to 'a large barnbrack' which is brought to a party.)
