On the 4th June 1875 P S Gilmore assumed the lease with E G Gilmore { not related } of PT Barnums Hippodrome . Initially Gilmore wanted a steady income to sustain his wonderful organisation in NYC while they prepared for Tours throughout the country as far as the rail would take them . And so Gilmore having seen the wonderful Crystal Palace Gardens in London and the planted Trocadero in Paris , envisaged an indoor garden where Men and Women could go and relax to the dulcet tunes of concerts or indeed view "walking races " or "pugilistic contest" or even "dog shows " . And so Gilmore's Gardens was born . after 1879 the Gardens remained but it became known as Madison Square Gardens . P S Gilmore the Irishman , still hold the record for 150 consecutive performances there to crowds of 10,000 or more ........
