Hey Rick, tell us about your exposure to Irish heritage, especially growing up in Missouri. Did your Irish-American friends have any special cachet, different, say from friends with a lot of vowels in their surnames?

Not a well organized Irish contingent in the small southwest Missouri town I grew up in, Ger. It wasn't until I came to New York to pursue my career that I started to meet people who had organized along ethnic lines. I knew my material great grandmother was married to an Irishman named Callahan and there was the Goudy family from Ireland on my father's side, but we were pretty much all the same in Ozark, Missouri. Now that I live in Jim Thorpe, PA, where a number of the Molly Maguires were hung, that I really began to get in touch with my Irish side. Well, that and watching you develop WGT, that is.

What can you tell us about the Callahan and Goudy lines in your ancestry?

Not very much, I'm afraid. Callahan was a fairly high profile builder in the Los Angeles area around the turn of the last century. All I know about Goudy is an antique photo and frame that was handed down from my maternal great grandmother, now deceased.

No one in the extended family has taken on family history as a project, then. Anybody in earshot know where in Ireland the Goudy name might be most common?
