I recently joined the Wild Geese. My grandpa came from the Drumkeeran area in county Leitrim. He was the youngest of 13 children. He was a blacksmith and moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1904. I have been to Ireland twice and have met relatives on both my grandpa and grandma's (Mayo) side. Looking forward to being a part of this site.
Hi - I am a new member of the Wild Geese. My Grandmother who raised me for a time was Catherine (Katie) Rourke sometimes O'Rourke. Her family was just outside of Carrick On Shannon. She had sisters Annie, Agnes, and Delia and brothers Hugh and Michael - both of her brothers were apparently in the South Leitrim Brigade of the old IRA. I would like to understand the use of the "O'. I have seen my family in Irish records both ways - in the census of 1901 and 1911 it would appear that that they preferred to use the name "Rourke".
