Though the Cork 1^st Brigade did not receive the same post-war recognition as the 2^nd and 3^rd Cork Brigades and Seán O’Hegarty is not as well known as Liam Lynch or Seán Moylan of the 2^nd Brigade or Tom Barry of the 3^rd, the Brigade was extremely active. And on a day in February 1921, they held off one of the largest forces of the dreaded Auxiliares that ever went into action in the war, and made them think twice about venturing west out of Macroom again.
