Hello, fellow Irish language enthusiasts.Have a look at a new blog post I just published…Continue
Go raibh míle maith agat for starting this group, Peter!
Two great dictionaries have finally made it online:
http://breis.focloir.ie/en
These two are staples of any Gaeilgeoir's bookcase, very heavy too so it's great to see them digitised!
When does this group start?
"I think it is a great pity that Irish i not more studied as a Key to Greek and Latin and the modern dialects of Latin. One who knows Irish well will readily master Latin, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese." - THE IRISH LANGUAGE A KEY TO THE MODERN LANGUAGES OF EUROPE. - Mr Patrick McMahon M.P. - IRISH PEDIGREES - John O'Hart
Other than their common inclusion in the Indo-European group of languages, I fail to see where Irish (Gaelic) has other than superficial root words in common with Latin or Classical Greek. As a schoolboy, I studied my Latin through the Irish language and it was all Greek to me.
Cinnte...fáilte!
Dia dhaoibh a chairde,
Is mise David and chuaigh mé sa ghrúpa seo, agus tá me ag iarraidh beannuithe a thabhairt daoibh. Tá áthas orm a bheith aseo :}.
