Dear Irish American friends accross the pond. I am an Irish poet living in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, I attach the lyrics for a song to commemorate the flight of the last of the Irish aristocracy, the legendary flight of the Earls. I hope you like it. Dia guit, Jonnie P. Enright

Londonderry or Derry is about an hours drive from Belfast, sadly the sectarian bigotry inherent in Northern Ireland makes the name of the city contentious. The predominantly Protestant Unions refer to the city as Londonderry, thus re-affirming their link with London and the act of Union; whilst the predominantly Catholic nationalist community refer to the city as Derry - sad, in an age of global warming, environmental destruction and dwindling natural resources we continue to argue over the name of the city wasting valuable time. On a a positive note, the city is only a stone's throw from the mountains of Donegal where you can find peace in the beautiful Irish land scape. Hope this answers your question, Dia guit, Jonnie

the walls of that particular city are unique in Europe and  a must see. Its not as simple as Catholic- Protestant. I mean the official name of the airport is Derry City Airport, as indeed is the football team Derry City or are they Stroke City? The Irish Times, based in Dublin, uses Londonderry.
