Not an AOHer, but a relative of a friend of mine was hung as a Molly in Mauch Chunk (Jim Thorpe), Pennsylvania. Maybe it's a matter of semantics - the difference, say, between the Mafia (which the gangsters say they never called themselves) and Cosa Nostra.

Arthur H. Lewis also brought out a book on the Mollies called "Lament for the Molly Maguires". It was not a glorious moment in the history of the American judicial system. Indeed, the State did not really intervene in the trial. Most of the evidence was on the word of James McParlan.  The evidence of the Squealer Kerrigan,  a man desperate to save his own skin, was not reliable.
