Pete Hamill will kick off Radio Free Eirean’s live broadcasts from Rocky Sullivan’s, 34 Van Dyke Street (across from IKEA in Red Hook, Brooklyn) this Saturday, June 15th, from 1PM to 2PM. RFE will continue the live broadcast from Rocky's each week, excepting WBAI fundraisers, pre-emptions and hurricanes.
Pete will talk about his family’s connections to Red Hook. One uncle, his mother’s brother, was killed in the shipyard where Ikea is today when he was crushed between a ship and the dock. In later years, two of Pete’s other uncles, his father’s brothers, worked at the shipyard.
He will also read from his bestselling book of short stories about Brooklyn, The Christmas Kid. The book will be on sale at Rocky’s that day.
We will be broadcasting from our brand new Brian Mor Ó Baoighill Studio - named after the founder of Radio Free Eireann. Every week RFE will present a mix of music, book readings or plays and interviews with Irish activists and journalists.
You can be a part of all this when you come to Rocky’s this Saturday, June 15th, and every Saturday to come.
Radio Free Eireann can be heard Saturdays at 1pm New York time on WBAI 99.5 FM or wbai.org.
